for Soprano, Alto Saxophone and String Orchestra

Duration: 12'

Commissioned by Festival della Valle d'Itria and Tallin Chamber Festival for the project Emerging Classical Talent in the EU promoted by the European Culture Programme

Premiere: 8 October 2014, Stockholm; Amy Corckery (soprano), Virgo Veldi (alto saxophon), Camerata Nordica conducted by Terje Tønnesen.

With glassy harmonics creating a shrill, unnerving opening, this wraithlike mood is sustained to create an almost surreal dreamscape. Surrounded by a constant liquid texture of sound, packed with multiphonics and harmonics, like a nocturnal vision, the voice obsessively repeats the last lines of Act IV of Shakespeare's Tempest: "We are such stuff as dreams are made on; and our little life is rounded with a sleep".
